FRSC calls for production of tyres in Nigeria

Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi has called for the production of tyres in Nigeria to ensure better quality of tyres for road users.

Speaking on Monday in Abuja at a press briefing on updates of the 2017 special ember months patrol activities he said a major concern is that the qualities of tyres being imported into the country were not a guarantee to safety on the roads anymore.

He said most times when the imported tyres are brought in, they are not well stored and the weather difference makes the tyre not able to last for long time as supposed to hence most of them were below quality standard.

Oyeyemi recalled that when Michelin and Dunlop tyres had their manufacturing plants in the country, their products where usually suitable with the Nigerian weather and roads and as well always readily available to users.

He called on the federal government to have a rethink and create tyre production plants in the country as it will also help in boosting the nation’s economy.
