Friend kills policeman on duty, steals rifle

A friend of a police officer attached to a commercial bank has shot and killed the officer and took way his rifle in Bayelsa State.

 A source, who works in the bank, told Daily Trust on Sunday that the incident happened on Wednesday at the bank on the D. S. P. Alameisegha Road in Yenagoa when both men were about to have lunch.

 He said that while the policeman, identified as Corporal Bob, left his rifle on the bench and was washing the spoons needed for the meal, his civilian friend picked his rifle and shot him in the back and ran away with his rifle.

 He also informed that the killer was last week introduced to officials of the bank by the deceased as his kinsman.

 Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat, said the identity of the suspect was known and that investigation was ongoing to arrest him.
