Farm Radio International (FRI) and other stakeholders in the agric sector have advocated the use of technologies and informative radio programmes to improve productivity in order to ensure food security in the country.
Speaking during a two-day multi stakeholders’ design workshop, organised by FRI in Abuja on Wednesday, the representative of FRI in Nigeria, Mr Benjamin Fiafor, said the workshop was organised to support the green innovation project.
Fiafor said the green innovation project involves four value chains – rice, maize cassava and potato.
He said, “As part of the work FRI is doing, they want to deliberate about the challenges facing the various farmers within the various value chains and the communication objective that they can use to implement the project to enable farmers to learn and uptake technologies to improve productivity and finally to design very good radio programme for all the stakeholders.”
Also speaking, Value Chain Advisor at Agriculture and Finance Consultants, Green Innovation Centre Nigeria, Mr Terna Yankyaa, said if a radio programme is unable to answer specific farmers’ questions, such questions should be directed to the extension agents for clarification.
