Barely 24 house after Kano state Council of Ulamas suspended Sheik Ibrahim Khalil and replaced him with Professor Abdullahi Saleh Pakistan, a group, Coalition and Council of Ulama and Islamic organisations in Kano State, has distanced itself from the announcement.
Daily Trust reports that the council said it suspended the cleric over alleged politicisation of its affairs.
But, the coalition in a statement signed by its Secretary, Dr Sa’idu Ahmad Dukawa, said it was not involved in the decision that led to the suspension.
The statement further said that the coalition has always sought to ensure peace and unity among Muslim faithful in the state, warning that such decisions are liable of truncating such good intentions.
It also charged Kano residents to continue to remain calm as well as shun anything that is capable of denting such effort.
Other signatories to the statement are notable clerics such as Professor Musa Muhammad Borodo, Sheik Kariballah Sheikh Nasiru Kabara, Sheikh Abdulwahab Abdallah, Professor Mohammad Babangida Mohammad, Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, Imam Nasiru Mohammad Adam and Dr. Bashir Mu’azzam Mai Bushira.
At the press conference where the suspension was announced, some clerics resisted, saying they were not consulted.
