About 2,000 persons including the young and old have been targeted in a five-day medical outreach organised for the people of Eket Federal Constituency.
The medical outreach, which involves eye examination and surgery, malaria treatment and sundry medical exigencies, was carried out for the people of Eket, Esit Eket, Ibeno and Onna by Mr Pat Ifon, their representative in the National Assembly.
Ifon who said health is wealth during the flag off of the exercise in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom, noted that the essence was to complement the state government’s efforts in bringing medical care to the doorstep of the people.
“Health is wealth and when you are healthy, you can do a lot of things including eating.
“The exercise is to ensure that our constituents are healthy and also to compliment laudable health programmes that the state government is doing.
“We are making sure that the people at the grassroots have access to good health care,” Ifon said.
He urged those in need of medical attention to avail themselves of the free medical outreach.
“When you are tested, you will be provided adequate free drugs, when you get your free treatments, let others know,” he said.
Also speaking, the spokesperson for the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Mr Samsudeen Sada, said medical experts were on ground to deliver free medical services.
“We are going to cover the aspect of eye problems and issues. We are going to conduct dental services in terms of surgical aspects of dental.
“We will take minor surgeries and refer them to be treated,” he stated
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Ekpuk Ituama, commended the lawmaker for bringing medical outreach to the grass root and urged other well-meaning individuals in the society to emulate the gesture of Mr Ifon.
