The Benue State Commissioner of Education, Saawuan Tarnongo, has blamed fraudulent staff in his ministry for aiding the existence of illegal schools in the state.
Tarnongo, who disclosed this while answering questions from journalists in Makurdi, said the ministry under his watch was already working to clamp down on the activities of such ill-behaved staff.

He said the issues surrounding the closure of illegal higher institutions and secondary schools in the state have become very challenging for his headship because fraudulent staff members of the ministry were aiding and conniving with proprietors of those institutions to keep the facilities running.
Earlier, Executive Secretary of the state’s scholarship board, Dr. Isaac Igbe, intimated that the state government had paid out over N400 million as bursary and scholarship to students of the state since the inception of the present administration.
