No fewer than four farmers have been reportedly killed and five others injured in another attack at a mining site around Kuba and Maikatako villages in Butura District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Sabastine Majit, President, Butura Youth Movement (BYM) who disclosed this in Jos on Saturday, said the incident occurred on Thursday around 9:pm.
The president, who gave the names of the victims as Bwefuk Musa, Klingshak Dickson, Promise Joshua and Nyam Abaka, explained that the perpetrators of the attack fled the scene of the incident before the arrival of the security personnel.
He said, “This attack occurred just four days after a tragic incident in the village of Wumat, where five members of a family, including a pregnant mother, lost their lives. This was the latest in a series of unprovoked attacks on our community, which has seen over 20 of our members killed in the last one month alone.
- Two herders killed in fresh Plateau attack
- More problems for Plateau poultry industry as business continues to crumble
“This incident is one of many, including previous attacks in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bassa, Jos North and South as well as Wase and Mangu local government areas, where innocent residents were brutally murdered in their sleep. If authorities fail to take decisive action to stop these assaults and the defamation of our community, we may be left with no choice but to resort to self-defence as a means of survival.”
