Plateau State Government has confirmed that four people were killed from the recent resurgence of Lassa fever in the state.
The announcement came a week after the Headquarters of 3 Division Maxwell Khobe Cantonement alerted on the resurgence of the disease in the state following the death of a soldier at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital.
However, the state Commissioner of Health, Kunden Kumshak Deyin said on Thursday that samples of 25 suspected cases were taken for test in which 16 were confirmed positive.
Kunden said four out of the 16 did not survive adding that, a patient from Bauchi had also tested positive to the virus.
“Most of the patients are being managed at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital while a few others are at the Jos University Teaching hospital where they are responding to treatment,” he said.
The commissioner said all primary contacts are being monitored by the surveillance team adding that the outbreak is currently prevalent in Jos north, Jos south, Bassa, Shendam and Riyom local government areas of the state.
