The IKE Foundation for Autism (IFA) has urged the federal government to establish a special intervention fund for the autism community to address the unique needs and challenges faced by individuals on the autism spectrum.
The Executive Director of the foundation, Mr Francis Mohie, made the call on Tuesday in Abuja as part of activities marking the Autism Day marked every April 2.
He said the funds could be utilised for various purposes, including funding for early screening and diagnosis, to ensure timely access to intervention services.
He noted that, “It will support early intervention therapies such as speech therapy, occupational therapy and behavioural interventions and cater for specialised education programmes tailored to the needs of autistic students.

“Training for teachers and educational staff to implement evidence-based practices for supporting autistic learners. Funding for medical and mental health services specific to autism, including diagnostic assessments, counselling and psychiatric care.”
Speaking on the implementation of policies within the autism community, he urged the government to prioritise guaranteeing access to education, healthcare and support services for individuals on the autism spectrum.
