An International Non-governmental Organization, Africa Youth Growth Foundation (AYGF), says it would enroll two million out-of-school children to different primary and secondary schools in the country in the next four years.
Executive Director, AYGF, Dr. Arome Salifu, said this on Wednesday in Abuja at the 16th Anniversary and town hall meeting of the foundation, themed: ‘Building Partnership for Humanitarian Impact’.
Salifu also said the foundation would plant one million trees in Nigeria, aimed at restoring the nation’s ecosystem.
“Programmatically, for the next four years and in accordance with our vision, we plan to get two million out of school children back to school under our Street to School project, plant one million trees under our Earth Restoration Campaign, support five million migrants in Nigeria, Canada, US, UK and Europe under our Migration Information and Communication Campaign, support five million households and families with livelihood and nutritional supports, among others,” he said.
He said since its inception, the foundation had enrolled over 500,000 beneficiaries and provided over two million nutritional services to households and families in Nigeria, particularly under the World Bank funded Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) project.
Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, lauded the foundation for the various programmes it had done in collaboration with the ministry.
Ngige, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Employment and Job Creation, Mrs Matilda Mmegwa, said: “We all know the state of migration both internally and externally in this nation. For this organization to be involved in issues relating to migration and the welfare of Nigerians wherever they migrate to, it is something that should be appreciated and celebrated by all.”
