The convener of Splendor Child Empowerment Foundation, Amb. Splendor Joe King, yesterday sought the support of the chairman of the Board of Directors of Media Trust Limited (publisher of Daily Trust newspapers), Malam Kabiru Yusuf, on its forthcoming peace dinner.

King, alongside her colleagues during a courtesy visit to the chairman at the corporate head office of the company in Abuja, said the dinner was intended to pacify aggrieved parties and implore everyone to imbibe peace.

She said: “We do not want another civil war as we understood the impact of civil war is terrifying and it is not something we want to experience.

“We come to you today because we do not have the capacity to make the demand from some places and we’ve come to you as a father to seek support to make peace dinner and to equally use your good position to create awareness for Nigerians to subscribe to the peace campaign using the hashtag ‘IStandForPeace’.

Responding, Yusuf described the campaign as noble, saying “It’s a great thing you’re doing and what you’ve chosen to work on, peace, is a bit challenging as there are too much violence, conflicts and killings of people and contestation of different groups.

“And for our children to align themselves that we ought to take it easy and make the country habitable for all of us is great.”

Yusuf promised to support the campaign, asking the foundation to shame the elders to really give peace a chance “because it is the politics and greed in the society that are leading to many conflicts and the other side is that people are very deprived and there is a lot of anger.”
