ONEJ CARE Foundation, a non-profit charity organisation based in Abuja, has organised a leadership training for young girls of ages nine-12.
The leadership seminar, which was held at Doveland High School’s Multipurpose Hall, Abuja, last Friday, had the theme ‘Unlocking the Leader Within’.
Executive Director of ONEJ CARE Foundation Mrs. Offiong Archibong-Anyanwu said her organisation was passionate about developing leadership potentials in women and the girl child through seminars, training, empowerment and other strategies that would improve the capacity of the girl child to aspire to become more than their current situation allows them to dream of.
She said the seminar was the foundation’s way of marking the International Day of the Girl Child, which is celebrated annually on 11th October.
“The main aim of the day is to promote girl’s empowerment and fulfillment of their human rights while also highlighting the challenges that girls all over the world face,” she said
He added that the objective of the seminar was to help the students realize their leadership potentials and understand the opportunities available for the girl child and women to impact the society, as well as prepare the girl child for leadership positions in the future.
Aso Chronicle reports that the seminar featured opportunities for public speaking and presentations by the students geared towards boosting girls’ confidence.
“At the end of the day the students made presentations and identified areas of society they would like to impact on and create a change.
“In addition, they developed personal quotes – a good standing point in posterity thinking – and certificates of attendance were issued to all students present,” Offiong-Anyanwu said.
The principal of Doveland High School, Abuja, appreciated ONEJ CARE Foundation for taking the initiative to educate the female students on their leadership potentials.
He opined that it will result in a change in the day to day lives of the students.
