Mainstream Foundation, an arm of Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL), said it is providing medical eye care for over 100 residents of Borgu Kingdom where it operates the Kainji hydropower plant in Niger state, on Friday.

It has provided projects worth N6.4 billion as its corporate social responsibility across Niger, Kebbi, Kogi and Kwara states, including medical outreaches.

Chairman, board of directors, MESL, Col. Sani Bello (rtd) disclosed this when he paid a visit to the Emir of Borgu, HRH Haliru Dantoro Kitoro III.

Col. Bello said: “In the last eight years since we took over Kainji, we have changed the narrative. We have empowered people, created jobs in the kingdom and other states.”

He said 22 projects are ongoing in Borgu including a clinic in Kwankwaso, the Emir’s birthplace.

The MESL board chair also urged the Emir to intervene on some encroachments by residents around the company’s staff residence, saying, “We have done well for you and we expect your people to do well for us as well. There is so much encroachment on the land we have officially acquired.”

He however noted that with the new expansion project at the Kainji plant, more Borgu indigenes will be engaged on job creation.

Emir Kitoro III, lauded the MESL team as he said, “I want to assure you that what you have said, we will immediately constitute a committee of people from the community and MESL to find a lasting solution to this. I believe with our intervention, you will not have any problem. I want to assure you that we will address this issue with immediate effect.”
