An NGO, ISFAT Foundation, has sensitised 200 schoolgirls of the Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Maimuna Gwarzo in Kaduna South LGA, Kaduna State, on menstrual hygiene and distributed sanitary pads.
Speaking during the programme, the Chairperson of the foundation, Hajiya Fatima Ismail Mudashir, noted that educating girls on menstrual hygiene was the responsibility of parents.
She said if parents failed to sensitise their girls on “this important topic”, there is every tendency for the children to get the information the wrong way.
She explained that, “Aside from the sensitisation of our younger sisters on how best to conduct themselves during menstruation, no fewer than 200 students are going to be given sanitary pads to improve their hygiene during their monthly cycle.”

In his remarks, the school’s Principal, Malam Lawal Maikudi, commended the foundation for finding time to visit and educate the students, saying no doubt the sensitisation would provide them with knowledge on how to take care of themselves.
Two nurses, Mustapha R. Temitope and Shamsiya Sa’ad, lectured the students.
