The Evergreen Youth Forum, an NGO in Kano has sought partnership with Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust titles to address challenges confronting youths in the state.
The forum, during a courtesy call on the Kano Regional Office of the company decried problems the youths were experiencing blaming idleness and growing rate of unemployment for drug abuse and other anti-social vices in the state.
Chairman of the group, Mudassir Danladi Sidi expressed optimism that if youth could be empowered with usefully vocational skills the rate of thuggery and drugs abuse would reduce in the state.
He called on the management of Media Trust to partner with the forum to salvage the state and the entirety of northern Nigeria from the menace of drug abuse.
“Youths are the future of any society, persistent constraints and deprivation that prevents many youths from achieving their potentials have huge consequences on individual, families, communities and nations,” he said.
The chairman further lamented the relegation of women in the scheme of things emphasising the need for more priority to be given to girl-child education and more opportunities for women folk to be able to realise their potentials.
“Observation has shown that adequate attention has not been given to women issue that is why societies face different kind of evil vices. Rising literacy rate of women is one of the most effective investments for increasing female productivity on top of enhancing the wellbeing of families,” he said.
