Yobe Youths forum has distributed rice to about 100 disabled persons in Nguru Local Government Area, Yobe State.
The forum said the gesture was under its ‘Disabled Persons Relief Project’ programme, and aimed at easing their difficulties during the Ramadan fast and lockdown as a result of COVID-19.
The Zonal Coordinator, Zone C, Barrister Abba Zanna Maidodo, said the project was initiated to assist the physically challenged persons.
“We started with food. As you can see, these people have to come out everyday to beg for what to take and this Ramadan came in hot season coupled with COVID-19 which requires us to maintain both physical and social distances.
“That is why we came up with the idea of distributing foods items first. Next we will find those among them with some skills to give them capital to start up. We are going to touch the life of each and everyone of them gradually by God’s grace with the little we have so far,” he said.
Malam Rabiu, the Chairman of Physically Challenged Persons Association in Nguru, said he was very happy to receive the assistance, which came two days after his wife put to bed.
Kanem Trust reports that the forum is a non-governmental organisation registered with cooperate affairs commission in 2018 with the aims of providing capacity building, and other initiatives for the enhancement of opportunities for the youths and needy in Yobe State.
