Former Minister, Bafarawa’s son join Sokoto governorship race

Former Minister of Water Resources and two-term deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Barrister Mukhtari Shehu Shagari, has joined the race for the governorship ticket of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Similarly, Sagir Bafarawa, the eldest son of former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa, was at the secretariat of the party on Thursday to consult PDP leaders over his governoship ambition.
Shagari was said to have notified the leadership of the party of his ambition via a letter.
The Publicity Secretary of the party, Yusuf Abdullahi Hausawa, who confirmed this to our reporter said, “Shagari had notified us through a letter which was attached with his manifesto for the state.”
Shagari was once  the PDP governorship candidate before he was asked to step down for Wamakko who defected from the ANPP against 2007 election.
Shagari has been a serial contender for the ticket since then.
However, Sagir who is the current Commissioner of Environment in the state, told Daily Trust that, he started making consultation in response to the calls by the people of the state for him to contest.
“I have been receiving calls from different people urging me to contest, some even made their calls through radio stations.
“This is why I started making consultation. Today I consulted the leadership of our party and I will take this consultation down to the local government levels insha Allah,” he said
On his purported resignation over the amended electoral act, he said “this matter is in the court.”
