A former speaker of Kano state House of Assembly, Alhassan Rurum, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Rurum, who is currently represents Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya federal constituency in the House of Representatives, is among the front runner for the APC governorship ticket.

But his hopes of clinching the party’s ticket was dashed on Sunday after the stakeholders of the party led by the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, endorsed the deputy governor, Nasir Gawuna, and the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Murtala Sule-Garo, for governor and deputy.
According to sources, the former speaker felt that the party leadership was not fair to the people of Kano south, where he comes from by picking Gawuna and Garo from Kano Central and Kano North.
Kano South has not produced a governor or deputy since 1992. Politicians from the zone had thought 2023 would be their turn.
Meanwhile, Rurum told journalists that he is consulting on which party to join, emphasisng that his decision would be made known soon.
