The executives of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Sokoto state have denied defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as claimed by a former member of the party, Dahiru Yusuf Yabo.
Yabo, while defecting to PDP recently, said the ruling APC had failed to honour the merger agreement reached with Senator Aliyu Wamakko with the defunct CPC members since 2015.
Yabo had added: “On behalf of APC members especially the defunct CPC executive members and their supporters across the 23 local government areas, we hereby endorse the presidential aspiration of Governor Tambuwal.”
Reacting to Yabo’s claim on behalf of the executives, Squadron Leader Aminu Bala Sokoto (rtd) said there were three members of the defunct CPC, those who joined the party because of their love and support for its national leader, Muhammadu Buhari; those who were not active members but were supporting the party financially because of their support for Buhari and lastly those were not supporters of Buhari but joined the party in order to benefit from his fortune.
“So Dahiru Yabo belonged to the last group. He never and would never support Buhari. He only joined the party to get elective position and when he lost election, he left the party.
“Similarly he had never been a member of APC. He only resurfaced when we formed a group call ‘Buhari Sak’ and when he realize that he could not use us to achieve his ambition he decided to join PDP,” Sokoto said
Sokoto, who was the state Coordinator of the defunct Buhari Organization, said Yabo lacked political ideology and relevance in Sokoto politics.
He challenged him to mention any executive member who had defected with him to PDP.
According to him, they are still in APC and reaffirmed their loyalty to the party and President Muhammadu Buhari.
