Former Afghan TV Presenter, 2 Others Killed In Explosion In Kabul

A former Afghan television presenter, Yama Siawash was among the three people killed by a bomb explosion in Kabul on Saturday in the latest violence to rock the city.

Police spokesman, Ferdaws Faramarz told journalists that Yama Siawash died when a bomb attached to his vehicle exploded near his residence in the Afghan capital.

Siawash’s father and brother were the first to reach the vehicle that was buried in flames, an eyewitness, Mohammad Rafi, told Aljazeera.

The prominent political and current affairs presenter with the country’s biggest private TV channel, Tolo New had recently joined Afghanistan’s central bank as an adviser.

In a statement, Abdullah Abdullah, who heads the country’s overall peace and reconciliation process, said: “Targeting journalists is targeting the freedom of expression and Siawash’s death is a big loss for our country,
“This is an unforgivable and unforgettable crime.”

The spokesman for President Ashraf Ghani, Sediq Sediqqi, condemned the killing of “ the most talented [television] presenters.”

There has been a surge of violence recently in Afghanistan.
