Former ACG Customs, Olumudi dies in Kogi at 72

Former Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs and Community Leader, Chief James Olumudi is dead.

The customs boss died in Kabba, his home town, Kabba-Bunu local government area of Kogi State on Friday at the age of 72.

Family sources told Daily Trust Saturday that Chief Olumudi was active up till the morning of his demise before complaining of stomach upset.

“Yes, he is dead. He paid his personal staff this morning. Ate his food and complained a little after of stomach upset and was rushed to St John private hospital kabba, where he died,” the source said.

Born in Kabba town, on 28th December 1948. He attended St. Mary School Primary, Kabba and Baptist Day Primary School, Zaria from 1953-1960.

He was admitted into Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, from September 1969 to June 1972 and graduated with a degree in history.

In 1972, he enlisted into Nigeria Customs Service as an Asst Preventive Supt and rose to the rank of an Assistant Comptroller General in 1999.

He was also said to have played a key role in the establishment of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

In the course of his service, he worked at Jos, Port-Harcourt, Ibadan, Lagos, Kano, and Sokoto. He held command posts at MM Airport Drug Unit, Sokoto Pan-Atlantic and was Zonal Coordinator at Kaduna and Lagos where he retired in 2004.
