Footballer arrested with pistol in Benue

Men of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards (BSCVG) at the weekend arrested a 25-year-old footballer, Jeremiah Gbogo, in possession of a locally made pistol in Fiidi Ward in Makurdi LGA.

The arrest was made barely 24 hours after the Special Adviser (SA) to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Security and Internal Affairs, Chief Joseph Har, led a campaign rally across major streets and flashpoints of Makurdi metropolis against cult-related activities, violence and “marching ground” – extortion of developers and shop owners.

Gbogo, a footballer and farmer, allegedly pulled the trigger of the pistol he allegedly collected from his brother’s friend and shot into the air amid other colleagues suspected to be cultists during a wake keep before the security men arrested him.

The Commander of the Benue State Volunteer Guards, Captain Ayuma Ajobi (Rtd), who confirmed the arrest of the suspect, told journalists that barely a day after the sensitisation campaign against social vices and other violent crimes, Gbogo decided to make himself the first culprit.
