A 100 kg bag of local rice old stock now sells at N42,000 as against N37,000 sold last week.

Similarly, a 100kg bag of newly harvested maize sells at N16,000 as against N6,000 sold during harvest last year.

Our finding revealed that the price of beans, millet, yam, and flour has also gone up with about 25 percent.

The increase in the price was coming when farmers across the state are witnessing bumper harvest.

Merchants, it was gathered, are following farmers to their farms to buy the harvested produce.

Most of the merchants, our reporter gathered, are hoarding the products, a situation that caused high prices of newly harvested farm produce.

In Mutum Biyu, Iware, Garba Chede, Tella, and Sabongida markets, trucks loaded with farm produce are leaving the markets to various towns where the items are hoarded on a weekly basis.
