Food Emergency: Group reiterates Call for Recruitment of 185,000 Nigerians into Forest Guard

The Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his recent declaration of a state of emergency on food security in Nigeria.

In a statement, Isaac Abarak, chairman of the group, described the president’s action as a proactive stance in addressing the issue that affects the well-being of the nation and its citizens.

“President Tinubu’s identification of key steps to tackle food security in Nigeria is a testament to his dedication and commitment to the welfare of the Nigerian people. We appreciate his recognition that urgent measures are required to ensure the safety and prosperity of our farmers, who are currently facing significant challenges due to the activities of violent and criminal gangs such as Boko Haram, bandits, separatist groups, and even oil militants.”

“The Northern Christian Youth Professionals firmly believe that securing our forests from these violent gangs is crucial in restoring confidence among our farmers, allowing them to return to their farms without fear. We reiterate our longstanding call for the recruitment of 185,000 Nigerians into President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope promise of a revitalized Forest Guard. This specialized force, comprising individuals with extensive knowledge of forest terrains, working in collaboration with the military and police, will be instrumental in monitoring, identifying, and tracking the activities of these criminal elements.

“Furthermore, we urge that the revitalized Forest Guard will help to fully maximize the potentials of the 500,000 hectares of land for agriculture, as identified by President Tinubu. This strategic step will not only safeguard food security in Nigeria but help Mr President to fulfill this vision for the creation of 5-10 million jobs from the value chain that will be created by the 500,000 hectares of land. This will foster economic growth and prosperity for our nation.

“The Northern Christian Youth Professionals applaud President Tinubu’s foresight and determination in addressing the urgent issue of food security. We pledge our unwavering support and commitment to working alongside the government in ensuring the successful implementation of these measures. Together, we can overcome the challenges we face and build a more secure, prosperous, and unified Nigeria.

“We call upon all relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and the Nigerian people, to rally behind President Tinubu’s initiatives and contribute their expertise and resources towards achieving lasting solutions for our nation’s food security.”
