The exercise was in commemoration of the FOMWAN health week which started from the office of the district head of kawo to other parts of the area in the metropolis aimed at sensitizing residents on the benefits of keeping a clean environment.
The Amira of the association, SaudatuNuhu Maiwada said they decided to come out and sweep Kawo environment to show the people that cleanliness is next to Godliness.
“We know that the government has already picked a date for such exercises, but we decided to still come out and show the people especially the women how to keep their homes and environment clean. What also informed our decision to embark on this exercise is because people are not prompted to come out and clean their environment, we discovered that even during the day set aside, people do not come out and clean their homes, but stay indoors till the time is over and then they can move out,” she said.
She urged residents to cultivate the habit of cleaning their surroundings as well as come out on the slated days for the monthly sanitation, adding that a healthy environment keeps diseases away 80 per cent.
Sa’adatu Abbas said, “I am very proud of the exercise we have embarked upon and I pray it goes a long was in ridding our society of health problems related to dirt. Islam preaches cleanliness, so it is very important for Muslims and non-Muslims to always keep their environment and themselves clean. Women should ensure that their family is in a clean environment because when the environment is dirty a lot of diseases can affect the health of the family, we don’t have to wait for the government to come and pack the dirt from the road side, even when you go into some people’s houses, there is no difference from what we see on the roads side,” she lamented.
Speaking on the exercise, the District Head of Kawo, Muhammad Jibrin said the importance of cleanliness cannot be overemphasized while commending the women Muslim body for their innovative thinking of coming out to sensitize people on the benefits of a clean environment.
