The Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Makurdi, Benue State, Dr. Peteru Inunduh, yesterday said that the hospital in the past six months alone treated over 42,000 victims of farmers, herders’ clashes from Benue and Taraba states.
Inunduh said during an interactive session with newsmen in Makurdi, that the health facility had lost millions of naira in the course of handling those medical cases since most of the victims could not afford their bills.
‘‘In six months only, over 42,000 patients were brought to the hospital and treated, but very few of them could afford to pay their bills. The hospital has no option than to write off the bills through the welfare unit,” he said.
