Epidemic looms in some communities in Edo State as corpses have been washed away from the graves following the flood that ravaged communities in flood prone local government areas (LGAs) on the bank of the river Niger in the state.
City & Crime reports that the local governments affected by flood are; Etsako East, Etsako Centra and Esan South East while some of the communities affected are Udaba, Anegbete, Ekperi, Osomhegbe, Ogoimeri, Iyowa, Ofukpu, Ifekhu, Agenebode, Ubiaja, Ilushi, among others.
Speaking with City & Crime, Joseph Odemokpai, the Councillor representing Ward 8 of Udaba, Ofukpu, Agbavo and Osomhegbe in Etsako Central LGA, said “The water level is still high in the affected communities. The whole communities are ravaged by flood and we are trying to move our people to the camp for safety.
“The flood situation is the same also at Ward 9 and 10, which include Anegbete, Udochi, Ogomere and Ifekhu, Ofukpo among other communities in all the affected local government areas.

“Like in Udaba, some bodies were washed away from the grave by the flood. Some people have died as a result of the severe cold due to the flood.
“Houses, farmlands such as cassava, rice, yam among others were submerged, farm produce, livestock, property were swept away by the ravaging flood.
“We are calling on the federal, state and local government areas to come to our aid.’’
