The Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Sidi, represented by the South South zonal director of the agency, Benjamin Oghenah, appealed to the state government to rectify some of the issues that led to the flood disaster such as clearing of blocked drainage channels, silting of blocked channels and control of improper waste disposal.
He congratulated the governor on the flood control measures being put in place in the state.
The deputy governor of Akwa Ibom State, Lady Valerie Ebe, accompanied by staff of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), commended NEMA for providing succour to the affected people, particularly as the intervention fell within the Yuletide period.
She said the state has commenced the implementation of the recommendation from the assessment on the disaster to forestall reoccurrence.
Materials presented to the victims included roofing sheets, zinc nails, rice, blankets, mosquito nets, cartons of soap and detergent, cartons of Indomie noodles, wax prints, mattresses, tomato paste, bath towels, plastic buckets, sugar and salt.
