Flood: Two NCE holders drown in Niger State

Two graduates of Niger State College of Education, Minna drowned while returning from their flooded rice farms at Bina in Lapai local government of Niger state on Sunday, Daily Trust learnt.

The incident happened when the boat conveying Suleiman Ibrahim aged 25 and Tanko Abako Hassan, 23 from Bina village capsized on Zumgbo-Edi River killing them.

The incident brought to 17 the number of lives lost to flood related accident across the state since the rain commenced, with Lapai local government area alone recording five.

Daily Trust recalls that three children aged between five and seven had lost their lives earlier in the year.

Natives said the deceased went to assess the level of damage to their farms which were submerged following a heavy down pour and were returning when the accident happened.

A woman of Fulani extraction who witnessed the accident was said to have alerted the community members, who dashed to the scene.

As at time of filling this report, local divers are still searching for their remains.

When contacted, Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA, Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Audu Hussaini said that the Agency was yet to get official briefing from its Desk Officer at the affected local government.
