A heavy downpour in Lagos yesterday took over some parts of Lagos-Abeokuta expressway with many vehicles submerged in the process.
The rainfall which started around 2:30 pm completely locked down one end of the double – lane expressway leading to a chaotic gridlock.
Our correspondent observed that some commercial buses and cabs going towards Sango-Ota and Tollgate in Ogun state were submerged in an attempt to meander through the flood at Alagbado community.
The other end of the expressway was minimally flooded which made it possible for vehicles to pass in a snail pace.
But there was standstill in the other end of the expressway as no vehicle could move through the period of the downpour.
It took about 30 minutes before the road could be reopened as observed by our reporter who visited the scene.
Also a filling station around the area was taken over by water forcing attendants at the station to take to their heels.
Residents and motorists attribute the downpour to lack of proper drainage in the expressway.
Similar downpour on Saturday also virtually closed down parts of Maryland road in Ikeja. There was heavy traffic around the area as motorists spent hours plying the flooded part of the road.
