James explained that the council chairman, Iliya Habila, had visited the affected areas to sympathize with the communities, especially farmers and assessed the level of damage suffered by the communities.

James added that the chairman would report the incident to the relevant authorities both at the federal and state government levels for further action in order to alleviate the suffering of the victims.

A resident of Gizaki Ndit, Danny Joseph, in a telephone interview, told Northeast Trust that the flood submerged over 100 hectares of rice farms in the community, adding that majority of the affected victims are small scale farmers.

He appealed to the state government to intervene and assist the farmers with inputs to enable the victims to plant another crop.
