The managing director, National Inland Waterway Authority (NIWA), Dr George Moghalu, has released ferries to provide services for stranded travellers in Lokoja and Kotonkarfe of Kogi State.
The directive was issued to the area manager of the Lokoja Area Office yesterday as part of its efforts to avert accidents and ease the suffering of the travellers caused by the flood.

NIWA’s general manager, Corporate Affairs, Jibril Dardau, disclosed this during a media briefing in Lokoja.
According to him, NIWA’s gauge readers in Lokoja as at October 6 showed the water level stood at 13.22 meters, which is higher than that of 2012, which was 12.84 meters. 2022.
The organisation said by the gauge, the 2022 flood level has surpassed that of 2012 with 0.38 meters.
Daily Trust Saturday reports that the flood this year has overtaken some major roads in Ajaokuta, Lokoja and Kotonkarfe local government areas of Kogi State, which has made movements difficult for travelers.
Meanwhile, the Kebbi State governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu, has donated N50 million to the Kogi State Government to support efforts at providing palliatives to flood victims in the state.
Bagudu disclosed this when he paid a solidarity visit to Governor Yahaya Bello in Lokoja over the ravaging flood in the state.
