Mashammari is a community located in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State. The community has been grappling with seasonal flooding for years, which is jeopardising the lives of people in the community.
The flood is often worse during the month of August of every rainy season, and it’s affecting the community in numerous ways, including denying them access to perform their daily activities.
It is very painful to see both men and women struggling to come out of their homes through polluted and unhygienic water after rainfall.
The flood also has implications for their health because it can contain various disease-causing microganisms which can lead to waterborne diseases.
Therefore, it is very important for the state government and other well placed persons of the community, particularly the chairman of the council and the councillor representing Mashammari Ward, to construct a drainage and link it to a big drainage system that is connected to a river.
The members of the community can also assist by stopping indiscriminate refuse disposal which aggravates the situation.
