Flood: Maroko evictees appeal to Sanwo-Olu

The residents of Jakande Housing Estate, Eti-Osa, have appealed to the Lagos State Government for the provision of a good drainage system to put an end to the perennial flooding within the area.

The residents of the estate are the evictees of the demolished town of Maroko in 1990 during the regime of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babaginda as the Head of State and Colonel Raji Rasak as the governor of the state.

Our correspondent, who visited the estate recently, observed that some residents and traders were busy cleaning up leftover debris caused by the recent rain in the area.

The chairman of the Community Development Association, (CDA), of the estate, Mr. Sulaiman Kazeem, who narrated some of the unpleasant experiences of residents in the area, appealed to the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to come to their aid.

“We are appealing to the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to come to our aid before the 2021 rainy season begins,” he said.

A resident, Pastor Tunji Haruna, said children are forced to stay at home during rainy season as a result of flood.

“We have many problems that need to be solved but good roads and proper drainage are very essential for now,” noted the Chief Imam Central
