The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Ebonyi says that two persons have so far died in the flood that has ravaged some parts of the state since June.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Mr Clement Ovuoba, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki on Tuesday.
Ovuoba said that an expectant mother, Mrs Ozoemena Ugbega, and a young man lost their lives in the disaster.
“The flood also affected 12 schools, six houses and 45 shops at the Abakaliki Building Material Market.

He said that the incident affected 173 persons from Ikwo, Izzi, Abakaliki and Afikpo Local Government Areas of the state.
He also said that 261 hectares of farmlands were destroyed.
Relatedly, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the death of one person in the Friday’s flood incident in Ondo town, Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The Director-General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, stated this on Tuesday while assessing the level of damage in the ancient city.
Torrential rainfall in Ondo town on Friday led to flash flood, with houses and vehicles submerged.
According to her, there is need to clear waterways and stop hindering free movement of water.
The DG earlier paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Gov. Olayide Adelami and Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo.
The Deputy Governor, while speaking during the assessment visit by the Director-General of NEMA, said the resources of Ondo State Government could not address the sea incursion in Ayetoro, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state, calling on the federal government for intervention.
Meanwhile, the Senate on Tuesday asked the federal government to develop swift and robust response mechanism to natural disasters in the country.
This followed the floodings that have ravaged many states of the federation, including Borno and Ondo in recent times.
The red chamber of the National Assembly also called on NEMA to immediately mobilise relief materials for the people displaced by flood in Ondo West Local Government Area.
It asked the Ondo State government to immediately conduct an on-the-spot-assessment of the flooding in the area with a view to finding a lasting solution to the menace.
