The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has ordered the immediate closure of all schools in the state to avoid loss of lives due to the current flooding in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Innovations, Engr Lawal Wakilbe confirmed this in a telephone conversation with our correspondent in Maiduguri on Monday evening.
Wakilbe said all primary and secondary schools had been directed to close for two weeks for the flood to recede.
He said the dirctive became necessary after consultation with the state committee on flood to prevent any loss of lives.

A large number of communities in almost all the local government areas have been seriously affected by the flooding, especially in Maiduguri, Jere and other LGAs.
Daily Trust reports that the Zulum administration had set up a special committee headed by Secretary to the Borno State Government, Bukar Tijjani, to facilitate prompt and effective response to the flood emergency in the state.
