Flood: FCT village seeks council chair’s intervention

Residents of Gudunkarya community in Kuje Area Council of the FCT have called on the council’s Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo, to intervene over flood threatening houses in the community.

The District Head of Gudunkarya, Mr Enoch Tukura, made the plea when he led some elders and community leaders to control the flood threatening houses and roads in the area.

He said, “Whenever it rains heavily, many houses are always flooded, including schools, So we have to mobilise to divert the water as the heavy water always comes from the hill behind the community.”

A resident, simply identified as Musa, said the community had been neglected in terms of infrastructural development by the authorities of the council.

He said despite complaints forwarded to the authorities of the council about the floods that always threatened houses, the authorities were yet to come to their aid.

An official at the works department of the council, who preferred anonymity, said erosion control and construction of drains had been captured in the council’s budget.
