Flood destroys houses, farmlands in Malammadori, Hadejia

Some farmers in Malammadori in Jigawa  State have called on the state government to come to their aid in the aftermath of a flood that ravaged residential homes and farmlands in the area.
The farmers, who made the call in an interview on Monday, specifically, urged the state Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assist them with relief materials.
One of the victims, Malam Sanda Abdu, said the flood submerged houses and farmlands in the area, following persistent rainfall in the past seven days.
Abdu said the rain, accompanied by windstorm, uprooted electrical poles and removed buildings’ roofing.
“The rain in the past days caused immeasurable damage,” he said.
He said over 80 houses were destroyed in Malammadori and adjourning villages.
Abdu appealed to the state government to assist the victims to rehabilitate their houses.
The affected areas include Kampala, Dunari, Abuja and Tudun-Gana.
In his comment, Alhaji Ali Alkali, the chairman, Caretaker Committee of Malammadori Local Government Area, pledged to support the victims.
Meanwhile, dozens of houses and farmlands were also destroyed by flood at Marma community of Kirikasamma Local Government Area of the state on Monday, following a heavy rainfall.
Similarly, hundreds of hectares of farmland had been submerged in Hadejia and dozens of residential homes destroyed as a result of flood.
The affected areas include Yayari, Dubantu, Kuburu, Gabari, Kakabori and Unguwar-Alhaji.
Also, major streets, business premises and the fish market in the area were submerged by flood. (NAN)
