Two persons died while several houses were destroyed following a rain-induced flood in Ringim and Jahun local government areas of Jigawa state yesterday, Daily Trust gathered.
Checks revealed that the flood killed one elderly woman in Ringim while five others sustained various degrees of injuries.
It was also gathered that one person died and numerous houses collapsed as a result of another flood in Jahun town, the headquarters of Jahun Local Government Area of the state.
Also affected by flood, as a result of overflow from River Hadejia, was Hadejia town, the headquarters of Hadejia LGA. Though no life was lost there, several houses were affected.
The Executive Secretary of Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (JISEMA), Sani Yusuf Babura, confirmed the flood incidents.
“My Agency is yet to receive report of flood from Ringim but my staff are already in the field ascertaining the level of destruction in Jahun, Hadejia and Mallam Madori LGAs,” Babura said.
