Flight ticket prices rose by 20% in one year – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has stated that the average price of a one-way flight ticket rose by 20 per cent in one year.

The NBS, in its Transport Fare Watch Report, said the price of air tickets in the country increased to N89,975.68 in January 2024 from N74,648.65 in January 2023.

The report added that on a month-on-month basis, there was an increase of 5.00 per cent.

It stated that the state with the highest flight was Rivers with a one-way ticket costing N100,500, followed by Lagos, N100,000 and Oyo, N97,600.

The lowest price was recorded in Abia, N73,000, Plateau N80,000 and Abuja, N80,500 when compared with the previous month (December 2023). On a year-on-year basis, the fare rose by 20.53%.

The report further stated that the average fare paid by commuters for bus journeys within the city per drop increased to 6.72% from N902.70 in December 2023 to N963.38 in January 2024.
