Veteran comic actor Femi Ogunrombi, popularly known as Papa Ajasco is one of the few Nigerian thespians who blessed the screens of several viewers with laughter, he is known for his leading role in the popular Wale Adenuga Productions comedy series, Papa Ajasco & Company, which was originally released in 1996.

On the 15th of January, it was revealed by a theatre practitioner, Shuaibu Husseini, that the iconic actor died in the late hours of Saturday 14th of January.

Things to know about Femi Ogunrombi

1. Since the beginning of his role in the comedy series, Femi is fondly known as Papa Ajasco among family and friends, this made it seem as if the character’s name is also his real name. Several of his friends have also called him Uncle Ogunrombo, but not to his hearing.

2. Femi Ogunrombi studied music and drama at Obafemi Awolowo University in the early eighties. While at OAU, he founded and executed a Choral group called “The Ayoro Voices”. This group was the cultural image of the University between 1980 and 1983.

3. In 1994, the popular actor joined the National Troupe of Nigeria as an ethnomusicologist, under the Ministry of Information and Culture. By 1998, he rose to the position of director of music, and he inaugurated and conducted the National Choir. Having composed more than 20 national songs. In 1998, he left the government to pursue his own music business.

4. His withdrawal from the government service pushed him to become an art advisor to different State governments around the country. For Example, Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture 1999 to 2002, under Chief Mrs Idowu Shonubi, The Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture, 2014, under Mrs Yetunde Fosudo, Cross River State Council for Arts and Culture, under, Late Bassey Effiong.

5. In the Popular movie, Papa Ajasco & Company, the actor is known for his unique type of dressing which is a shirt, tie, and a briefcase, asides that, the thespian is known for his horseshoe hairline (Bald on top with hairs on the side) many would say that’s the way his hair is, but the truth is Femi only made his hair look like that because of his role in the movie series, the actor’s hair grows normally.
