Five persons killed as rival cult gangs clash in Bayelsa

A young child simply identified as Amos and four other persons have lost their lives during a shoot out between two rival cult groups in Lobia ll community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

According to eyewitness account, the two cult groups supposedly from Ukubie and Azuzuama communities clashed on Sunday during the remembrance ceremony of one late Chief Genesis in Lobia ll over a conflict yet to be ascertained.

Some community sources, told Daily Trust that a little boy, identified as a son of one Mr. Amos from Lobia l community, three persons from Ukubie and one person from Azuzuama communities lost their lives during the shooting on the night of Sunday December 27, 2020.

Daily Trust reports that after the EndSARS protest in the country last July, cultists have been having a field day in various communities in Bayelsa state, notably in Tombia/Etekwe axis of Yenagoa and other communities, where they rob residents at will.

The police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat confirmed the incident, saying it was as a result of two rival cult gangs that clashed at Lobia Community, southern Ijaw Local Government Area on 28 December 2020 at about 0230 hours.

He said: “The unfortunate incident led to the dead of four cultists. Their identities is yet to be ascertained at the moment.

“The corpses have been deposited at the morgue. Investigations have commenced.” He said.
