Fish economy will boost Yobe revenue — Buni

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has expressed belief that the government and people of the state have a greater chance to increase their revenue flows, both at the public and individual levels, if we continue to improve the culture and business of catching, processing and selling of fish across Nigeria.

“There is no doubt that one of the most effective ways of improving on our fish economy is to sustain the Bade Fishing and Cultural Festival and to build on it for many years to come.

“To ensure success in this regard, I would like to direct the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and other relevant organizations to ensure the rehabilitation of all the facilities at this site and ensure adequate preparation for future festival events,” he said.

Buni spoke yesterday at the opening ceremony of the 38th Bade Fishing and Cultural Festival at Mauyi-Ganga Riverside, Gogaram Town Jakusko Local Government.

He said he had received the report of the Technical Committee on the Revitalization of Agriculture set up to explore ways to bring agriculture back on the front burner in the state and fully tap from all its potential.

He said a steering committee would soon be appointed to ensure the implementation of the recommendations of the committee.

“We would ensure that we enhance aggregate production in crop farming, livestock farming, irrigation activities, and fisheries in order to help put our people on the path to self-reliance and wealth creation.

He appealed to Yobe people to continue to pray for the return and sustenance of peace in the state, in the northeast and other parts of Nigeria.
