First-time Rep-elect urges Buhari to guide APC in selection of NASS leadership

A first-time elected member of the House of Representatives to represent Lere federal constituency, Engr. Ahmed Manir has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to guide and counsel the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the selection of 9th assembly leadership.

Engr. Manir who contested under the platform of APC and was declared the winner of the Lere Federal Constituency seat in Kaduna state by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) advised Buhari not to allow some “selfish people to hijack NASS as they did in 2015.”

Manir, who spoke with Daily Trust in Jos on Thursday, said based on the results released by the INEC it was already confirmed that APC would have the majority both at the Senate and House of Representatives, “which makes it a high time for party leadership to avoid the mess of 2015 where some people for their selfish interest held the legislature to ransom.”

He said, “We were all aware of the mess of 2015 where some selfish people hijacked the national assembly and make it a living hell for the Executive to take this country to greater heights.

“I advise Buhari to guide and counsel APC to ensure that we have competent leaders in the assembly. President Buhari shouldn’t allow the mess of 2015 to repeat itself.”

Manir expressed gratitude to God for his victory and also thanked voters and the people of Lere for showing faith in him by voting him to represent them at the green chamber.

The rep also assured his constituents that he would not disappoint them.

It would be recalled that Engr. Manir of the APC polled 64,442 votes to beat his closest rival, Alhaji Muhammed Lawal Rabi’u of the PDP who got 29,706 votes in last Saturday’s National Assembly election.
