First Bank vow to retain Women’s Basketball League title

First Bank, popularly called the Elephant Girls, emerged 2014 champions after beating Dolphins Basketball Club of Lagos, 65-51.
Aderemi said that the team was preparing for the 2015 season.
“We are confident of retaining the title won last year, we have been in preparation since January; you can see for yourself how our players are training and preparing for the season.
“You can see that a new synergy exists among the players and they are all thirsty for success, with the commitment and determination they have been exhibited in training.
Aderemi said that new players had been recruited to join the team.
‘’We have also recruited seven new players. Upe Atosu and Nkechi Akashili a four-time Zenith Bank League Most Valuable Player award winner along with five other players have joined us.
‘’The other five players will be revealed when the league is about to begin; they are equally well experienced players who will add value to our team,” Aderemi said.
He said that First Bank would not underrate any team in their quest to retain the league title.
“We have respect for all the teams in the league; we would not go into any match underrating any team.
“However, teams like First Deepwater and Dolphins pose a threat to our aspiration, but with the high team spirit in camp and commitment, our goal is achievable,” he said.
In the same vein, First Bank captain, Oluchi Nzekwe said that the team was looking forward to a good season.
She said that the target of the team was to win the league back to back.
‘’The team spirit is perfect in camp. The newly recruited players are blending well with the rest of us.
“The players coming to join us are great individuals who can be rated among the best players in the league; hence they are bringing a whole lot of experience to the team.
“We are eagerly looking forward to jump ball day because we are confident of retaining the title at the end of the season,” Nzekwe said.
The first phase of the Zenith Bank Female League will take place in Abuja from March 15 to March 25. (NAN)
