The First Bank of Nigeria has said in celebration of 60 years sponsorship of the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship, the 2021 edition is open to both local and international amateur golfers.
The tournament is scheduled to tee off on Friday, November 19-21, 2021 at the prestigious Ikoyi Golf Club Lagos.
The Chief Executive Officer of First Bank, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, who addressed the press yesterday in Lagos to herald the tournament commended the Golf Section and the entire Ikoyi Club 1935 for maintaining 60 years relationship with the bank.
He maintained that the mutual and symbiotic relationship was responsible for the Lagos tournament’s well deserved status of World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event.
Adeduntan added that the First Bank Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship is now one of the international golf events where all amateur golfers worldwide can participate and amass points to aid their WAGR rankings.
He said there will be the Corporate Golf Challenge on November 18 while the official competition will tee off on Friday, November 19 through to the championship finals on Sunday, November 21.
There will also be a ProAm event for Sunday, November 21 to recognise past professional winners of the competition. Tagged ‘Roll of Honour’, the past winners would play against invited amateur guests for a cash prize of $5,000, trophies and other prizes.
In addition, there will be the Ladies Invitational which the sponsors said is a subset event of the ProAm, comprising female guests invited by the bank.
Adeduntan said First Bank’s strong support for sports development emanated from the understanding that it is a major unifying force for individuals and communities.
“We believe that sport is also a veritable platform for promoting a healthy nation and a major vehicle for social and economic development.
“These beliefs have been our greatest motivation for partnering with relevant institutions for sports development, through the sponsorship of major tournaments, one of which is this annual golf tournament.
“To make this year’s edition truly memorable, a series of events have been carefully crafted to promote inclusivity free from gender and age biases, to discover and groom talents that would excel in golf,” he said.
The Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications of the bank, Folake Ani-Mumuney said First Bank is excited to celebrate the landmark diamond jubilee of the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship which she said is the longest sponsored golf tournament in Nigeria and Africa.
