The Chief Executive Officer, Ecocity Projects Limited, Norbert Shialsuk has called on the federal government to intensify efforts in developing the local gas market to end gas flaring.
A gas flare is a combustion device used in industrial plants such as petroleum refineries, chemical plants and natural gas processing plants.
Nigeria’s local gas, especially liquefied petroleum gas faces several hurdles of inadequate infrastructure, pricing, heavy taxes, levies, and a more recent threat that may disrupt the local market.
Shialsuk stated this on Tuesday while briefing journalists on Nigeria’s local gas market development and moderating the indigenous gas offtake at a virtual roundtaineble meeting.

He noted that a well-developed local gas market could make Nigeria a leading producer of gas and transform the country into a major consumer of natural gas.
“Developing the local gas market will enable Nigeria’s commitment to end gas flaring by providing a channel for commercializing flare gas. Major thrusts of the Nigerian gas policy to drive consumption are Natural Gas Vehicles and Cooking Gas Cylinders”
