Okafor Motors, an Enugu State-based auto maker and pioneer of the made-in-Nigeria solar-powered tricycles, has entered into a partnership with Sustainable Communities Corporation (SCC), an Ohio, US-based non-profit organisation to produce solar-powered tricycles.
In a statement, Okafor Motors stated that the partnership would set up NrG Corporation and produce several units of solar tricycles named Nikeke to boost Nigeria’s transportation system.
The Chief Engineer at Okafor Motors, Anthony Obinna Okafor, noted that his dream would not have become a reality without the investors.
He said, “This is definitely a dream come true. Four years since the prototype was developed, we kept the faith, believing this project will get to the mass production phase. It wasn’t an easy ride waiting within the past four years.

“However, we utilised these waiting periods in modifying our designs, testing out various models to determine which of them is best suited for the local market.”
Under this partnership, so many options will be explored. Together with mass production of the prototype, we are also considering several other modifications, inclusive of quadricycles and electric bikes.”
