Fire Service foils man’s ‘third suicide attempt’ in Osun

A middle-aged man identified as Saheed Oladeji on Monday jumped from the Gbodofon bridge into the Osun river in Osogbo, the state capital.

Mr Oladeji jumped into the river in an attempt to commit suicide but was rescued by men of the State Fire Service.

A resident of the area said the man often complained of economic hardship and that it was the third time that he had attempted suicide.

He said: “This is the third time he will be doing such a thing. I don’t know what his problems are,” the source said.

Mr Oladeji was, however, taken to hospital for treatment after being rescued.

The spokesman of Osun State Fire Service, Ibrahim Adekunle, while confirming the incident, said, “We received a distress call, and our men immediately moved to the scene. He had already jumped into the river. We rescued the man,” he said.
