Fire has gutted the Oja Tuntun Market in Ilọrin, Kwara State, destroying shops with goods worth millions of naira.
The spokesman of the state’s fire service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, who confirmed the incident on Thursday, explained that upon arrival, the fire crew found shops ablaze and worked swiftly to bring it under control.
He said, “15 shops were affected out of the 1,072 shops, 984 stands, and 27 warehouses in the market”, noting that the cause of the fire hadn’t been ascertained yet.

He advised that, “People should cultivate the habit of switching off their electrical appliances before bedtime. This would help them to prevent the chances of fire outbreaks in their homes, market places and offices.”
